FLSA Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)

 

Position Summary: Responsible for learning and executing the day-to-day management operations of a retail wine and spirits store. Directly supervise 1-5 employees depending on store location. Responsible for: store operations, safety, security and overall professional growth of store employees: checking and inspecting incoming merchandise to ensure inventory accuracy of delivery; completing daily store reporting activities, including cash accounting, bank deposits and other point of sale operations; providing on the job point of sale training to new employees; providing a safe and secure work environment; directly responsible for store customer service activities.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Point of Sale:

  • Maintains a working knowledge of products through liquor/wine/beer books and magazines or through on-line corporate sanctioned training.
  • Audits cash/credit card sales receipt for accuracy and accountability.
  • Performs X/Z-Out transactions according to corporate store reporting and Retail Pro procedures and processes.
  • Prepares bank deposit tickets and making daily bank deposits.
  • Forwards store reporting documents to Corporate within 24 hours of bank deposit.
  • Immediately reporting cash shortages/overages to the Store Reporting Supervisor.
  • Verifies and reports any products not appearing in the Retail Pro inventory.
  • Verifies price changes resulting from weekly or special promotion sales.

2. Cash Register Operations:

  • Insures areas around and near cashier workstations are keep clean and neat (uncluttered).
  • Insures keyboard/screens and surrounding area are cleaned with approved cleaning products.
  • Insures Microsoft Windows software applications are operational during store hours.
  • Responsible for immediately reporting to the IT Director at Corporate any hardware/software problems.
  • Responsible for insuring cash drawers and external cash containers are secured and properly placed out of sight and reach of customers.

3. Merchandising:

  • Insures all product displays are kept neat and stocked.
  • Insures promotional items are in stock and available for the customer.
  • Insures new product information is provided to store employees.
  • Insures product shelf tags are neat, clean and display the correct price and inventory management information.
  • Responsible for overall sales growth by up-selling products within the store.

4. Manpower/Staffing Requirements:

  • Ensures new employees are provided the necessary training to effectively complete their duties and responsibilities as outlined in their job description.
  • Advises HR Director at Corporate of employee training shortfalls or proficiency problems.
  • Schedules assigned employees in order to maintain a safe and secure work environment while meeting operational requirements.
  • Insures employees arrive and leave work as posted in the weekly schedule.
  • Reports “No Call/No Shows” to the HR Department using the approved HR forms.
  • Reports to the District Manager any employee adverse action which prevents the store from operating effectively.

5. Inventory Control and Management:

  • Responsible for receiving inventory using pre-approved inventory control procedures.
  • Completes products transfers using pre-approved inventory control procedures.
  • Insures stock is adequately stocked using cycle-counting, in- store shelving spot checks and min/max reports in Retail Pro as required by Corporate.
  • Properly identifies, tags, and reports product breakage, leakage or customer returns.
  • Insures purchase orders are received and entered into the Retail Pro inventory system using pre-approved inventory control procedures.
  • Identifies and reports any slow sales or obsolete products to Corporate.

6. Store Security:

  • Insures overall security of the store and its employees during operational hours and secures the store at closing by properly locking doors, turning on designated lightening and setting alarms.
  • Insures Key Holder or Closers are properly trained on all aspects of store closing operations and for opening the store by 10:00 a.m. on a daily basis and advising Corporate of any problems occurring during the night.

7. Housekeeping:

Responsible for insuring all aspects of housekeeping standards are maintained and for insuring store clerks perform housekeeping duties as outlined in their job description.

8. Store Administration:

  • Posts store licenses according to Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission (TABC) requirements.
  • Maintains on file employee TABC training completion certificates.
  • Maintains Cigarette and Tobacco Notification forms on all employees working in the store on file.
  • Maintains required documentation pertaining to sales, purchase orders, transfers, breakage/leakage/returns, cycle counts and any other pertinent files.
  • Forwards employee adverse action documents to the HR Department.
  • Picks up employee paychecks on a bi-weekly basis from the Payroll Manager.
  • Responsible for miscellaneous administrative duties as required by Corporate.

Position Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of basic management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of merchandising, customer service and basic policies and procedures of a retail company.
  • Skilled in standard point of sale operations to include Windows-based inventory management systems.
  • Skilled with retail sales procedures from basic to advance levels.
  • Skilled at counting money and making change and basic bank deposit procedures.
  • Skilled at Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission sales guidelines.
  • Skilled at solving customer service situations to an outcome beneficial to both customer and company.
  • Skilled in loss prevention and inventory shrink-reduction practices
  • Proven ability to train, mentor, and motivate staff members.

 

Education, Experience and Knowledge:

  • High School/GED and two to five years experience at the management level in the retail industry or equivalent.
  • Prefer at least 6 months experience with Gabriel’s Investment Group, Inc.

Certifications:

  • Current Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission Certification.

Special Requirements:

  • Microsoft Windows/XP applications and basic math skills at the 12th grade level.
  • Advanced experience with cash register (point of sales) operations.

Physical Limitations:

  • Must be able to speak English clearly and be able to stand 2/3 of time spent on the job.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms and must be able to stoop and/or kneel.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs to waist level and must have clear vision at 20 inches or less.

Work Environment:

  • Must be able to work in a high stress, retail store environment and work in low to moderate noise environments.
  • Must be able to work long hours as necessary to manage position.

Work Hours:

Must be able to work 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. All holidays with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s days, are considered regular work days.
