JOB DESCRIPTION
(Full Time – Regular)
 
Title:  Store Manager in Training/Group Leader
Department:  Retail Store
Reports to:  District Manager
FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt (Hourly)
 
Position Summary:  Responsible for providing on the job training to new retail store clerks and advanced training to store manager trainees.  Said training is to be accomplished within a pre-established training period.  Position is responsible for submitting required evaluations to the District Manager/Director of Operations and HR.
Directly responsible for training and successful transfer of operational knowledge and skills to manager trainees; responsible for each step of the manager training process outlined in the manager training manual. Manager trainers must continually audit the trainees’ progress through the minimum 30 day training process. The manager trainer must be proactive and have the ability to recognize if the manager trainee is ready after the 30 day training period to operate in the field. Must have excellent people and communication skills and be able to lead and forge long productive relationships. Manager trainers must be able to keep in constant contact with stores within their group at least once a week. Manager trainers must be able to schedule their time efficiently to be able to make at least one store visit a week.
 
 
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
Must complete training and evaluation process in the following competencies within specified timelines.
      1.  Point of Sale Training Competencies:
  • Maintains a working knowledge of products through liquor/wine/beer books and magazines or through on-line corporate sanctioned training.
  • Audits cash/credit card sales receipt for accuracy and accountability.
  • Performs X/Z-Out transactions according to corporate store reporting and Retail Pro procedures and processes.
  • Responsible for preparing bank deposit tickets and making daily bank deposits.
  • Responsible for forwarding store reporting documents to Corporate within 24 hours of bank deposit.
  • Responsible for immediately reporting any cash shortages/overages to the Store Reporting Supervisor.
  • Responsible for verifying and reporting any products not appearing in the Retail Pro inventory.
  • Responsible for verifying any price changes resulting from weekly or special promotion sales.
 
      2.  Cash Register Operations:
  • Responsible for insuring areas around and near cashier workstations are keep clean and neat.
  • Responsible for insuring keyboard/screens and surrounding area are cleaned with approved cleaning products.
  • Responsible for insuring Microsoft Windows software applications are operational during store hours.
  • Responsible for immediately reporting to the IT Director at Corporate any hardware/software problems.
  • Responsible for insuring cash drawers and external cash containers are secured and properly placed out of sight and reach of customers.
 
      3.  Merchandising:
  • Responsible for insuring all product displays are kept neat and stocked.
  • Responsible for insuring promotional items are in stock and available for the customer.
  • Responsible for insuring new product information is provided to store employees.
  • Responsible for insuring product shelf tags are neat, clean and display the correct price and inventory management information.
  • Responsible for overall sales growth by up-selling products within the store and maintaining correct inventory levels to support sales and growth.
  • Notifying Purchasing Department of minimum/maximum adjustments required to optimize sales and inventory turns.
 
      4.  Manpower/Staffing Requirements:
  • When sending trainee to permanent site or transferring someone, an evaluation should precede the move so the 2nd store manager knows the status of the individual’s progress.
  • Responsible for insuring new employees are provided the necessary training to effectively complete their duties and responsibilities as outlined in their job description.
  • Responsible for advising the HR Director at Corporate of employee training shortfalls or proficiency problems.
  • Responsible for scheduling assigned employees in order to maintain a safe and secure work environment while meeting operational requirements.
  • Responsible for insuring employees arrive and leave work as posted in the weekly schedule.
  • Responsible for reporting “No Call/No Shows” to the HR Department using the approved HR forms.
  • Responsible for reporting to the District Manager any employee adverse action which prevents the store from operating effectively.
 
      5.  Inventory Control and Management:
  • Responsible for receiving inventory using pre-approved inventory control procedures.
  • Responsible for completing products transfers using pre-approved inventory control procedures.
  • Responsible for insuring stock is adequately stocked using cycle-counting, in- store shelving spot checks and min/max reports in Retail Pro as required by Corporate.
  • Responsible for properly identifying, tagging, and reporting product breakage, leakage.
  • Responsible for insuring purchase orders are received and entered into the Retail Pro inventory system using pre-approved inventory control procedures.
  • Responsible for identifying and reporting to Corporate any slow sales or obsolete products.
  • Responsible for communicating purchase order problems to either stores or corporate to facilitate corrective actions.
 
      6.  Store Security:
  • Responsible for insuring the overall security of the store and its employees during operational hours.
  • Responsible for securing the store at closing by properly locking doors, turning on designated lightening and setting alarms.
  • Responsible for insuring Key Holder or Closers are properly trained on all aspects of store closing operations.
  • Responsible for opening the store by 10:00 a.m. on a daily basis and advising Corporate of any problems occurring during the night. 
 
      7.  Housekeeping:
  • Responsible for insuring all aspects of housekeeping standards are maintained.
  • Responsible for insuring store clerks perform housekeeping duties as outlined in their job description.
 
      8.  Store Administration:
  • Responsible for posting store licenses according to Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission (TABC) requirements.
  • Responsible for maintaining on file employee TABC training completion certificates.
  • Responsible for maintaining on file Cigarette and Tobacco Notification forms on all employees working in the store.
  • Responsible for maintaining required documentation pertaining to sales, purchase orders, transfers, breakage/leakage/returns, cycle counts and any other pertinent files.
  • Responsible for forwarding employee adverse action documents to the HR Department.
  • Responsible for picking up employee paychecks on a bi-weekly basis from the Payroll Manager at Corporate.
  • Responsible for miscellaneous administrative duties as required by Corporate.
  • Responsible for maintaining files documenting information flow to and from stores.
 
 
Position Qualifications:
 
  • Knowledge of basic management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of merchandising, customer service and basic policies and procedures of a retail company.
  • Skilled in standard point of sale operations to include Windows-based inventory management systems.
  • Skilled with retail sales procedures from basic to advance levels.
  • Skilled at counting money and making change.
  • Skilled with basic bank deposit procedures and processes.
  • Skilled at Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission sales guidelines.
  • Skilled at solving customer service situations to an outcome beneficial to both customer and company.
  • Skilled in loss prevention and inventory shrink-reduction practices
 
Education, Experience and Knowledge:
 
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Two to five years experience at the management level in the retail industry or equivalent.
Certifications:
  • Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission Certification.
 
Special Requirements:
  • Microsoft Windows/XP applications.
  • Basic math skills at the 12th grade level.
  • Advance experience with cash register (point of sales) operations.
 
Physical Limitations:
 
  • Must be able to stand 2/3 of time spent on the job.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to stoop and/or kneel.
  • Must be able to speak English clearly.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs to waist level.
  • Must have clear vision at 20 inches or less.
 
Work Environment:
 
  • Must be able to work in a high stress, retail store environment.
  • Must be able to work in low to moderate noise environments.
  • Must be able to work long hours as necessary to management position.
 
Work Hours:
 
Must be able to work between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.  Understands all holidays with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s days, are considered regular work days.  This is a full-time, regular status employment position.
